I was actually going to keep an eye on news reports for rampaging dairy products wreaking havoc . . .

I don't know if I want to continue in a world that no longer includes either Merv Griffin or Don Knotts.

You could always think of it this way--now Don Knotts and Merv Griffin could very well be watching everything you do.

First off, Evan, I noticed you've been summoned to a uber-geek talkback on Ain't It Cool about this:
http://www.aintitcool.com/talkback_display/33659

It's amazing the effect that this guy had on popular culture: Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, his own show... My favorite Merv show was towards the end of its run, when he went to the ranch of Bo & John Derek. For the entire hour, he hung out with them and their visitor, John Derek's ex-wife Ursula Andress! (Ursula ... Linda Evans ... Bo ... he certainly had a thing for lookalike wives.) The best part was Merv, Bo, John, and Ursula lying on rugs, staring up at the ceiling as Merv got them to talk about Life, the Universe, and Everything. FAAAABulous!1 Farewell, Merv.

And yet, I'll bet they've still heard of the Elevator Killer...

Poor Merv. I notice they didn't mention his big hit ("I've Got a Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts") in the obit I read, though they mentioned that he was the singer in Freddy Martin's big band.
And in looking that up on Wikipedia, I found the following fact - -learn a new thing every day!
"His open-mouthed kiss with Kathryn Grayson in his debut film, So This Is Love (1953), was the first such kiss in a Hollywood film since the introduction of the Production Code in 1934."
Wo!

Mike Wieringo also died this morning of a heart attack at age 44.

As if those two ever remember what causes them to run amok.
