If Your Past Haunts You, Shred It
I spent some time this afternoon trying to straighten up my art files, which have become a bit of a mess in recent months. My plan was to organize everything and pull some art to scan and put up for sale, but I got distracted going over a batch of old drawings and photocopies I found, stuff I thought I threw out ages ago. I threw some of the 'art" out into the recycling already, but some of it I'm scanning before I decide whether to trash it or not. Like this gut-busting winner from the mid-'80's:

Does anyone remember Doug Allen's Steven? I still have the Kitchen Sink comics. I wonder if anyone ever put out a big collection of the strip. I should look into it. Maybe I will.

Anyway, I'll probably post a few more examples of this sort of crap if I can muster the courage. I'm a fan of the hee-larious self-deprecation routine, but some of this shit is just plain embarrassing. Too bad I can't shred every copy of Phigments out there...or Wild Knights...or (insert title here)...

I really enjoyed your "Steven and Hobbes" drawing. I remember Doug Allen's comic very well. I just finished rereading my Kitchen Sink collections the other day and was thinking that the strip (to quote Rodney Dangerfield) doesn't get enough "respect."

Highly entertaining.

I love Doug Allen's Steven! I have a few magazine sized collections somewhere, I wish I knew where. It really would be great if there was a single collection out there somewhere. Keep us updated, if you would.

Strangely, a few people up on my friends list this morning is Shannon Wheeler's drawing of Hobbes (eating Calvin's eyes).

Steven, yeah man. One of the great strips from the golden era of free-paper comics. What else was around? Lynda Barry, Charles Burns' "Dog Boy", "The Angriest Dog In The World", "Migraine Boy" ..
K would love this drawing, whenever reminded of Steven she always yells "Eat some paste!"

I didn't read Phigments, but yeah, Wild Knights was pretty bad.

But seriously that's the only thing you've done I did't like, except maybe the story in The Mask Hunt for Green October, but I think a lot of it was visual ideas and whatever artist they put on your miniseries for that was just awful. Maybe I was just too busy reeling from all that bad art the whole time...

Please please please do not throw that away. Email's in the profile if you'd like to trade it for some lucha libre.
