A Page I Found Lying Around The Office

Part of it, actually. Drawn for Brendan McGinley's Dose anthology in 2007. The printed version look a little different, this is from the original board and hasn't been cleaned up, some of the text was reversed white on black, etc. By Sarah, of course, I never touch the strips on the computer.

Break time over. Gotta get back to inking Ron Jeremy holding up a Cookie Monster puppet.

Ron Jeremy holding up a Cookie Monster puppet.

And as the guy from Gone and Forgotten notes, "Because this is the internet, someone, somewhere, is masturbating to this."

Big Fun, indeed!

Incidentally, why is Howie Mandel back on my T.V.?

Ah, Ray Stevens, who also gave us that timeless ballad of locomotion sans culottes, "The Streak."

It's for Mad, so there'll be no Hedgehog funstick. It's all-ages Ron Jeremy/Cookie Monster fun. Yeah.

... It still has me scratching my head since his context would be wasted on the younger readers. You're the pro, though.

I didn't write the piece, I'm just drawing what they asked me to.

Even so, you're allowed to float some refs over the readers heads, also, Mad has a decent older readership. And Ron Jeremy, well, who knows who knows who he is. He's more famous than a lot of people, and he's kind of become a small-time William Shatner or Chuck Norris, if you know what I mean, famous for pop cultural reasons beyond their actual work. He's certainly reached human punchline status in humor circles.

And that's enough analysis on that, I think. I'd rather talk about The Grey Gargoyle or The Mad Thinker than The Hedgehog anyday.

A note on the last comic...

Someone my wife and I used to know got married in the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in Macon, Georgia. While we were waiting for the ceremony to start, a friend and I wandered around and noticed there were these giant pictures of Ray Stevens on ever other wall. Some were serious portraits of him, others goofy novelty pictures, like him in front of a pyramid on a motorcycle while wearing a fez. Finally we asked an employee about the number of Ray Stevens framed pictures on every vertical flat surface. Turns out he's a huge contributor to the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.

It still doesn't explain why a 5'x3' picture of him hangs in the middle of the museum like it was the centerpiece of the place.

I guess Macon, Georgia just hearts Guitarzan. And brain damage. Plain and simple. All there is to it.

Going into Macon city limits, I do recall a slogan beneath the welcome sign that read "Hope You Like Brain Damage and The Allman Brothers, You Assholes".

Zippy...

The 'Everthing's beautiful' strip reminded me of a comment made by 'Griffy' in Bill Griffith's daily 'Zippy the Pinhead' script in which he described his annoyance at the movie "Life is Beautiful."

He made the argument - a good one in my view - that life CAN be beautiful... but in its natural state, life is often just savage and ugly.

I also find myself biting my tongue every time I hear people say 'All life is sacred.'

um, I shouldn't have to, but let me state for the record that my closing 'all life is sacred' thing is not meant to imply that I endorse murder or anything like that...
It's meant to imply that some people really just choose to live their lives uselessly and thus - kinda not sacred.
