Alex Toth R.I.P.
I just read that master cartoonist/illustrator/storyboard artist Alex Toth has passed away.

http://www.tothfans.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1028

There will be plenty written about Toth in the coming days and weeks by people far more qualified than I am to speak about the man, his work and his legacy. If you're not familiar with his work, I suggest you seek these articles and essays out and learn a few things about one of the greats.

I read the hell out of one of his art books in college. The man will be missed.

that a shame, R.I.P.

It makes the new book that's coming out bittersweet.

Shit.
And me out-of-town and on freaking dial-up for the next three days, so I can't look at any of his stuff in my collection or read any of the forums, et cetera, online without it taking 4 hours...

He was truly one of the all time greats. What a storyteller and innovator.

Ugh that's terrible ... he was such a fantastic and unique artist. I'm sure CBG and CJ will do something big on him, but it would be nice if Boomerang gave him a marathon.

R.I.P.

Wow, I just lost one of my favorite artistic influences. The world lost a real talent today.

I was out all evening (at a screening of Jim Henson's little-seen 1969 telefilm The Cube which was followed by -- of all things -- the 1980 version of Flash Gordon [now there's a study in contrasts]), and when I got home this was the first thing I heard about. It saddened me greatly.

Without Alex Toth, there would be no Space Ghost. Without Space Ghost, there would be no Space Ghost Coast to Coast. Without Space Ghost Coast to Coast, there would be no Adult Swim. Need I say more?

I only just got just got into his stuff a few years ago, but everything of his I read affected my awareness of how comics and drawing in general work.
