smokin'

So very c-c-cold

Man, am it cold. Which in away is good for me, as it keeps me inside, and a bit more focused on my mail, work, etc. Including this dumb ol' blog. To wit:

Apparently the Empire State Building will be lit green in honor of Popeye the Sailor Man's 75th anniversary. Sarah has more info on her blog at jinjur.com. Still too lazy to link directly, sorry.

Actually, here's an honest to gosh link, at least, if I posted it correctly. This is the press release with info on the Subcukltures show that Sarah and I are contributing toy designs for. The show will be held at the Art Institute of Ft Lauderdale in Florida next month, and will feature toy-oriented work by toy designers, graphic artists and cartoonists. People familiar with Tim Biscup and the Ugly Doll folks might be interested in this. Sarah and I designed seven figures that will be made on the Art Asylum "Mini-Mates" bodies, the larger sized ones used for ther Star Trek and Bruce Lee lines, if anyone knows what I'm talking about. There might be some promo art/designs on the web soon,m if so, we'll let you know where you can look for it. Anyway, this should be the info page for the show/event:

My follow-up sale to Mad fell through. I thought it might. As part of a pitch I sent some gag panels meant for Dork #11, one of which they wanted to buy. Unfortunately, it was one that had a recurring character ("Sidney Glick, World's Worst...") and they felt changing it around to differ from the Dork feature would kill the gag too much, and besides, the Mad concept would then be in competition with my feature, so it got too entangled and they passed. I wasn't going to sell the concept for the fairly low panel rate, I'd rather hold onto the "World's Worst" gag for later use in Dork. I'm still working on another pitch and when time allows I'm going to work up a flurry of strips and gag panels for the new Fundalini catch-all section they've started.

Thought I had something else to say. Hmmm. Isn't that always the way?
Gotta get back to the Hellboy strip. Ciao.
